‘Just no’… Wolves fans have split opinions about ‘joke’ transfer link, but some would ‘consider’

Wolves fans are divided in their opinions on one emerging transfer target ahead of the summer window.

Vitor Pereira orchestrated a successful January window, and now, the Wolves manager will be eager to fill in the gaps this summer.

The Old Gold certainly hired the right man for the job when recruiting Pereira to succeed Gary O’Neil back in December, but the Portuguese coach’s success means nothing without support.

Wolves owners Fosun must financially support Pereira in the summer transfer market, in what is set to be a decisive window for the Old Gold, who will be desperate to kick on ahead of the manager’s first full campaign.

The West Midlands club have been linked to an array of talent in a variety of positions already, with the latest update revealing two possible targets.

Wolves have been linked to Troy Parrott and Cameron Archer, two forwards with history in Premier League academies.

After the news dropped, Wolves fans reacted on social media, as plenty of supporters shared their verdict on Archer, who is a product of Aston Villa’s academy.

“Cameron Archer just no… Parrott Though be alright as a back up option,” one Wolves fan said.

Others shared their doubts about Archer, who has scored only two goals this season for Southampton.

“Cameron Archer, what a joke that is!! If we’re going to sign players from relegated clubs, then there’s not a lot of hope for us next season!! 31 appearances this season & 2 goals! I say we stay well away. Championship player at very best!!”

Another fan mentioned the 23-year-old’s inability to deliver in the Premier League as he does in the Championship.

“Archer is one of those strikers who’s good for Championship but won’t cut it in the Prem.”

Struggling to score in one of the worst sides in Premier League history, Wolves supporters shared their concern about the Englishman.

“Cameron Archer ain’t good enough for us. Seen that this season,” one said, as another agreed.

“Archer. Another Hobbs disasterclass incoming. They cannot let him pull the strings with recruitment, otherwise we’ll end up with championship garbage like him.”

One Wolves fan drew attention to the talent already on Wolves’ books, amid the news that Fabio Silva will leave Molineux in the summer.

“Fabio Silva is literally better than both of them,” they said.

While the majority of fans on social media were against the idea of signing Archer, who joined Southampton in the summer, some could see the benefits in securing the forward.

“Archer I wouldn’t mind, but it’d want to be cheap,” the supporter said.

“Loan with a £10m option based on appearances. That’s the most I’d be spending. He is homegrown though, and young, so maybe one to consider.”

Another fan agreed with the statement, insisting that either Archer or Parrott would be a strong squad acquisition.

“Would be a really good option of the bench either of them or I could see Vitor playing 2 strikers.”

Archer isn’t at Premier League level yet

The consensus is divided, however, those unsure of Archer’s suitability to a club on the rise like Wolves have a valid argument.

Though the 23-year-old has talent in abundance, there’s significant evidence to suggest that the Englishman needs more time in the second tier before he signs for another Premier League club.

Cameron Archer in the Premier League and Championship – as of 01/05/25

In 70 top-flight appearances, Archer has found the net only six times, averaging a goal every 688 minutes this term, via Sofascore, which is far from appealing.

It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Archer, who has suffered back-to-back relegations with Sheffield United and now the Saints.
