Juanlu Sanchez to Wolves just took a big step forward after what one transfer rival has now decided

Wolves appear to have been handed a boost over one transfer target, with a transfer rival abandoning their pursuit.

Vitor Pereira is looking for more new signings in these next couple of weeks, with just two weeks to go until the new season starts.

Wolves signed their third new player last week, with David Moller Wolfe joining from AZ Alkmaar.

But Wolves need a player on the other side to replace Nelson Semedo, with some Wolves fans unconvinced Ki-Jana Hoever is up to the job.

One player who Wolves have been looking at is Juanlu Sanchez.

And this afternoon there has been a potentially big update on the Spaniard.

Wolves thought they were going to sign Marc Pubill a couple of weeks ago.

But Atletico Madrid stole in and landed the defender, forcing Wolves to go back to the drawing board.

But Sanchez has worked his way onto Wolves’ radar in recent weeks.

Last Friday it was suggested that Wolves had an agreement in place to sign Sanchez, but there was also word of interest from Napoli.

Sanchez then became strongly linked with the reigning Serie A champions.

However today, journalist Matteo Moretto – who broke news of Real Sociedad’s pursuit of Goncalo Guedes – has said Napoli are now out of the race, clearing the way for Wolves.

Moretto states that Sanchez is getting closer to joining Wolves, and that the player is open to coming to Molineux.

He adds there is an agreement in principle worth around €17/18 million (£14.7/£15.6 million), and crucially, he says Napoli have stopped short in their pursuit of the player.

That is because they were around €2/3 million (£1.7/2.6 million) short of Sevilla’s asking price.

Moretto teases that ‘important news’ about Wolves and Sanchez could even arrive later today.

Wolves must not let Sanchez slip from their grasp

It sounds as though everything is on track for Wolves to finally sign their replacement for Nelson Semedo.

But of course, we have been here before.

Marc Pubill looked to be as good as signed by Wolves, and he still ended up heading elsewhere.

You never quite know in the transfer market until the player is stood there holding the shirt of his new team, and Wolves fans will remain cautious until that is the case with Sanchez.

But Napoli seemingly dropping out is promising news for Wolves, who can hopefully get this deal over the line in the coming days.

The club have shown with the move for Moller Wolfe that they can get things done quickly when push comes to shove.
