Josh Brownhill agrees £100k-per-week move after Wolves rejection

Wolves were in the hunt for a midfield addition before the deadline, identifying free agent Josh Brownhill as a top target.

With 18 goals and six assists in the Championship last season, Josh Brownhill’s decision not to renew with Burnley this summer screamed ‘market opportunity’.

Vitor Pereira was clear about his plans to add another midfielder to the squad, and judging off the first handful of Premier League games, the Englishman’s creative, attacking profile was what this Wolves team was missing.

But Brownhill turned down the move to Molineux, opting instead to make a lucrative move abroad.

According to Sky Sports, Brownhill has agreed a move to the Saudi Pro League that will see him pocket six figures per week.

As has become the norm in football, the earning potential for Brownhill is simply far higher over there.

Wolves were interested in Brownhill since January, and when he announced he would be entering free agency, there was hope an agreement could be reached.

At 29, Brownhill is still in his prime years.

Wolves fans will be disappointed that the club couldn’t convince the former Burnley star to sign, as he would have addressed some of the bigger concerns in the squad.

Josh Brownhill might have saved Wolves’ transfer window

The general feeling among Wolves fans is that not enough was done during this window to strengthen the squad.

Jeff Shi has claimed Ladislav Krejci is cover enough, but as a more defensive-minded player, he doesn’t fix the creativity issue.

Vitor Pereira wanted a midfielder on deadline day, but no agreement could be reached, leaving that area of the side bare.

Brownhill was a missed opportunity that will leave a sour taste considering no other options were explored, but his decision to sign such a lucrative deal with Al Shabab isn’t one you can hold against him.
