Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa believes Julen Lopetegui has massively improved the mentality of the players.

It has been a good start to life at Molineux for the Spaniard.

Wanderers have shown some really positive signs in recent games, and results haven’t been too bad.

Wolves have gone out of both cup competitions which is disappointing. But it does mean there can now be full focus on staying in the Premier League.

Lopetegui has taken seven points so far, and has been able to lift the club out of the relegation zone.

But things are very tight down at the bottom.

Southampton are currently at the foot of the table, but are only two points behind Wolves.

Potentially, it could go to the wire this season.

But Sa believes Lopetegui has really improved the mentality of the players, which will stand them in good stead.

He said: “He has made massive changes, to our mentality, our way to work, to press, to be on the pitch and this was very good for us and we are very happy to work with him. Now it’s about fighting for him.

“We are more like warriors and we are looking for each other. They are protecting me and I am protecting my teammates. We are more of a family and we are giving all for our teammates, and this is very important because we are showing character, and we like this.

“The coach has helped us a lot to improve this. We are of course the same players that we were before. But he’s made changes to the mentality and our way to work.”

Wolves look more up for the fight, as Jose Sa makes mentality claim about Julen Lopetegui

Without doubt, the players now look more up for the fight and are more competitive.

The raising of the fitness levels has really helped too, and they don’t really look a soft touch anymore.

It’s clear all the players have really taken to the new manager and have bought into what he’s trying to do.

It was clear many had checked out under Bruno Lage, and Lopetegui has done well to instill new motivation and self-belief.

Hopefully with experienced and proven players like Mario Lemina and Pablo Sarabia coming in, the mentality of the dressing will improve even further.
