‘It’s sad’: Pundit says £100,000-a-week player took Wolves to ‘a new level completely’

Dave Edwards has expressed his sadness about Raul Jimenez making a move to Fulham from Wolves.

The Mexico international is expected to officially complete his move to the Craven Cottage outfit, after doing his medical yesterday.

Jimenez had been with the squad for pre-season, leading to a bit of talk about him potentially staying.

But it is now only a question of when Jimenez leaves, not if.

He’s no longer with the Wolves squad in Portugal, and will join the Cottagers.

Edwards has given his reaction to the news, and it’s one many fans will no doubt share.

Edwards has penned a new column in the Express & Star, and Jimenez leaving is the first topic he discusses.

The former Molineux midfielder is gutted to see him go, feeling it is the end of an era at Molineux.

He said: “It’s sad in many ways because we all remember how good he was during his first two seasons at the club.

“He helped take the team to a new level completely. Wolves had not had a striker like him probably since Steve Bull. The kind of player who could really run the frontline. The goals and assists he got in that first season were excellent.”

Jimenez has made 166 appearances for Wolves, and scored 57 goals and made 24 assists.

He only managed three last season, with all of those coming in the EFL Cup, as he battled some fitness problems.

Raul Jimenez took Wolves to new heights

So it looks as though Jimenez will soon no longer be a Wolves player.

Although it has kind of been on the cards, it is still very sad to see him go.

Jimenez was an absolutely inspired signing for Wolves. He joined the club on loan initially from Benfica, and was an instant hit.

After Wolves then bought him for £30 million, he established himself as one of the best all-round centre-forwards in the Premier League.

His first two seasons at Molineux were truly special, and Edwards is right to say that the club haven’t really had someone like him since Steve Bull.

Sadly things were not quite the same for Jimenez after he suffered his skull fracture. And last season was a real struggle for the £100,000-a-week star, and he did take a bit of stick at times.

But hopefully it will be nothing but love and adulation from fans, when this exit is confirmed.
