Wolves signed Santiago Bueno, but before the Uruguayan the club were heavily linked with Nico Elvedi – and the defender has now opened up about the past few weeks he’s had.
Wanderers swooped to sign Bueno from Girona in a deal worth around £8.5 million.
The club have high hopes for the 24-year-old, with Matt Hobbs describing him as ‘a perfect fit’.
It will be interesting to see how he gets on, especially given that Wolves might have instead signed Elvedi.
It was reported that Wolves were really interested. But seemingly, the club just couldn’t afford him.
This was before Manchester City showed an interest in Matheus Nunes, who was ultimately sold for £53 million.
Elvedi has now spoken about not getting a transfer away from Borussia Monchengladbach this summer…

Elvedi has ended up staying put at Gladbach.

Everton also showed some late interest in him after Wolves did.
And now the 26-year-old has shared what it’s been like for him over the past few weeks.
He said in an interview with Blick, as quoted by Buli News: “Although my advisor kept a lot of things from me and only informed me about the most important things, it was very intense.
“It wasn’t easy, especially since I wasn’t allowed to play.
“I feel very comfortable here, Gladbach is like my second home.”
Elvedi’s contract with the German club expires next summer.
Time will tell if Bueno was the right choice for Wolves after Elvedi links
In the end, Wolves were in a position to afford Elvedi, but Bueno was their choice.
And we will now find out how good a decision it was to plump for the Uruguayan.
Elvedi probably had a bit more pedigree. He’s slightly more experienced and was actually the best passer in the Bundesliga last season.

He also has 47 caps for Switzerland, compared to Bueno’s two for Uruguay.
Hopefully, Wolves will be fully vindicated in their decision to sign the South American over Elvedi.
