Wolves are in desperate need of central defenders – but any January move for Issa Diop could now be a struggle.
The French star was supposedly on Wolves’ radar during the last transfer window.
Foot Mercato reported the club were keen on the towering ace, along with Southampton and Crystal Palace.
The claim came at a time where Diop was way down in the pecking order at West Ham United.
The form of Craig Dawson since his arrival has limited his game time, and then Kurt Zouma came in from Chelsea in the summer.
But a recent ACL injury to Angelo Ogbonna has seemingly opened the door for Diop.
The Italian defender is out long-term now, and Diop actually got his first Premier League start of the season yesterday in the 3-2 win over Chelsea.
Diop, who has been ever-present for West Ham in their Europa League campaign, was very good against the Blues.
And there could be more minutes in the offing for Diop, with Zouma going off injured against his former club.
Fans react as previous Wolves target Issa Diop shines; have Wolves missed the boat?
On social media, some fans have been reacting to Diop’s performance against Chelsea.
Although the Hammers conceded twice, the 24-year-old did excel in the Irons’ back three.
Quite a few were praising Diop’s ability to break the lines with his passing.
That is something that would perhaps make him a very good addition for Wolves. But with Ogbonna now out for the foreseeable, and West Ham sweating on Zouma’s condition, it is hard to see West Ham selling if Wolves were still keen.
Really, Fosun ought to have struck while the iron was hot.
Here’s what some people made of Diop yesterday:
