Wolves will not be pursuing one rumoured transfer target this summer for a very uncommon reason.
As expected, the 2025 summer transfer window started with key sales at Wolves.
Matheus Cunha signed for Manchester United, and shortly after, Rayan Ait-Nouri followed the Brazilian to Manchester.
The race is on for Vitor Pereira and Wolves’ new-look hierarchy to pull off a strong summer in the transfer market ahead of the manager’s first full season at Molineux.

Abbosbek Fayzullaev is an impossible transfer for Wolves
Wolves are doing their homework on an array of attacking targets as Pereira looks to replenish the threat lost through Cunha’s departure.
The Old Gold have struck gold in the South American and, of course, the Portuguese markets in recent years, but one emerging target comes from a vastly different region.
Attacking midfielder Abbosbek Fayzullaev of Uzbekistan is a name uttered to be on Wolves’ radar, but transfer expert Graeme Bailey has put any ideas of a move to bed.
Speaking to Molineux News, Bailey explained why, no matter how much the Old Gold like the player, a deal is ‘impossible’ at this moment in time.
“Interestingly, you can probably put it to bed,” Bailey said when Fayzullaev’s name was mentioned.
The TBR journalist went on to explain how the geopolitical situation in Russia has impacted transfers, which rules out a move for the 21-year-old.
Due to the ongoing conflict, English clubs are unable to sign players from Russia, subsequently axing Fayzullaev from Wolves’ wishlist due to the fact that he represents CSKA Moscow.
Bailey went on to explain how West Ham United have been stung by the situation, being caught in a difficult financial scenario due to money owed to CSKA for Nikola Vlasic.
“CSKA commented about the fact that they hadn’t been paid by West Ham for Vlasic. Part of that is that West Ham are saying that they’re not allowed to pay CSKA at the moment because of the restrictions.
“So that tells us that basically, it’s impossible for Premier League clubs to sign players from Russia. So even if Wolves wanted Fayzullaev, it’s not possible.”
The depth of Wolves’ interest in the player is unknown, but for now, he’s a talent that cannot be considered.
Wolves are doing work on attacking targets
Fortunately, when it comes to the attacking midfield position, Wolves are already well on their way to bolstering the squad.
Fer Lopez will undergo a medical ahead of his transfer from Celta Vigo to the West Midlands, in what is proposed to be a deal worth £19.5m.
As well as Lopez, it’s understood that Wolves are doing work on Evann Guessand, who is also wanted by Jose Mourinho at Fenerbahce.
It remains to be seen who follows Lopez to Molineux, but one thing is for sure and that’s that it won’t be Fayzullaev.
