‘I’m not sure’: Pundit has big doubts whether £21m Wolves player is ready for the Premier League

Steve Bull has expressed his concern about Wolves potentially turning to Fabio Silva this season.

The 21-year-old has returned to the squad following his loan spells at Anderlecht and PSV Eindhoven last season.

Silva joined Wanderers in the summer of 2020 for a huge £35.6 million from FC Porto.

It was a transfer that really raised eyebrows, with Silva only being 18 and having only just broken through to Porto’s first-team.

Silva struggled in his first two seasons at Molineux.

Last term though he scored 16 goals and furthered his development.

Despite this haul, and plenty of playing opportunities, Wolves’ all-time top goalscorer Bull has reservations about the youngster as an option going forwards.

Pundit Bull wrote about Wolves’ pool of strikers in his latest Express & Star column.

He spoke about how Raul Jimenez and Matheus Cunha could be a good pairing.

But reports are suggesting that the Mexican is going to leave the club and join Fulham in a deal worth about £5.5 million.

On Silva, he says: “I’m not sure if he’s Premier League ready. It’s a tough question. He did alright for us before, but he wasn’t spectacular.

“He needs the service too, all our strikers have been starved of it. But I would bring him back as more competition can only be a good thing for the squad.”

Silva has made 62 appearances for Wanderers, scoring four goals and making six assists.

Earlier this summer, the player’s agent suggested that he would prefer to leave the club. Shortly after that, there was a claim that Wolves had placed a £21 million asking price on Silva.

But recently, it has been claimed that Julen Lopetegui is keen to have a look at Silva in pre-season.

Fabio Silva might be in line for a fresh shot at Wolves

So Silva is now back at Wolves and Lopetegui will no doubt have a close eye on him.

It’s going to be really interesting to see if he sticks around.

Given the reports about Jimenez, it might be that he is in line for another chance at Molineux.

A lot of Wolves fans would like to hope that Silva can still be a success at Molineux, given what was paid for him.

He clearly wasn’t really ready for the Premier League when he first joined.

But now he’s had a season away to develop, he might be ready.
