‘If he’s our player’: Gary O’Neil shares what he’ll do if Matheus Nunes doesn’t join Man City

Gary O’Neil last night spoke about Matheus Nunes and what he’ll do if the player doesn’t join Manchester City.

Wolves took on Blackpool last night in the Carabao Cup second round, and round out comfortable winners.

Wanderers won 5-0 at Molineux over the League Two side.

Wolves were obviously expected to win. But it was nice to see five goals scored – something which is a real rarity.

And after the game, O’Neil fielded some transfer-related questions.

Inevitably, he was asked about Nunes, who was not included in last night’s squad after the midfielder went on strike…

Gary O’Neil gives Matheus Nunes update after thumping Blackpool win

At the moment, it seems like it could go either way with Nunes.

He clearly wants the move, but Wolves are standing firm. that is something that will please Simon Jordan, who slammed Nunes’ behaviour yesterday on talkSPORT.

Speaking on Nunes and what he’ll do if the midfielder doesn’t leave, O’Neil said (via Sky Sports): “We’re obviously disappointed he’s decided to remove himself the group. But transfer windows, four days left… let’s see what happens.

“As far as I’m aware, unless anything’s happened in the last 90 minutes… there’s been no improved bid. If he’s our player again then, which I assume he will be come the 2nd of September then he’ll be part of the group and we’ll speak to him about what he needs to do and where we need to get him to.

“I can understand when a big club comes in for you, it can be unsettling. But there are ways which you should and shouldn’t deal with it. There are ways you should and shouldn’t deal with it. I have my own views which I will share with Matheus when I get the chance.”

O’Neil is handling the Nunes situation really well

Fair play to O’Neil for the way he has spoken about Nunes so far.

It cannot be easy for him to deal with disruptive behaviour such as this.

But O’Neil is saying the right things, even if Nunes does end up leaving for City.

O’Neil is clearly not impressed with the midfielder’s antics and it is good to hear that he will be speaking to the player about it

The reintegration process will certainly be interesting to see unfold if Nunes does stay put.
