Manchester United want to sign Francisco Trincao
Every Premier League club will begin to turn their attention to the transfer window, with Manchester United’s movement being something that could alert Wolves.
Ruben Amorim wants to sign Pedro Goncalves however, he’s not the only former Wolves player that the manager wants to welcome to Old Trafford.
Speaking to Molineux News, journalist Graeme Bailey confirmed that Manchester United are also eyeing Francisco Trincao.
“Trincao is a fascinating name within English football and nobody knows him more than Wolves fans,” Bailey explained when talking about all things transfers at Molineux.
“He showed up in spells, and had he stayed longer Wolves fans probably would have seen the best of him. He has since emerged as huge talent at Sporting under Ruben Amorim – who also had him at Braga.
“I am told Trincao is one who could follow Amorim, and that will be pleasing to Barcelona who have a 50% sell-on for him.”
Trincao made 30 appearances under Bruno Lage during his loan in the 2021/22 season, scoring twice in the Premier League however, it wasn’t enough to impress.
Wolves paid to oust Trincao
The Portugal international was on loan from Barcelona at the time of signing for the Old Gold, a loan that included an option-to-buy clause.
At the end of the winger’s season at Molineux, the decision was made to not sign Trincao permanently, resulting in Wolves having to pay Barcelona £5m to let him go.
There was a positive in that a 20% sell-on fee was inserted for Trincao, impacting the Midlands club when the forward then made the move to Sporting CP, where he is now wanted by Amorim.
Given that Lage opted against signing the tricky wide player, it will be interesting to see if the Red Devils do strike a deal to bring the 24-year-old back to England.
