How Wolves really feel about Diogo Jota amid transfer speculation revealed

Wolves have struggled to score goals this season. The Old Gold have only managed to put the ball in the back of the net 40 times in the Premier League.

Matheus Cunha has been Wolves’ saviour on multiple occasions. The Brazilian has popped up with multiple game-winning moments making the prospect of being without him an almost unbearable one.

However, linked with Arsenal, Cunha is expected to leave Molineux in the summer, so naturally, Vitor Pereira has been tipped to bring in a new forward, and the latest name to be linked is one of the club’s best former players — Diogo Jota.

Wolves linked with re-signing Diogo Jota

Reports earlier this week suggested Wolves are considering bringing the Portugal international back; five years after he left.

The forward signed for the Reds in 2020 for a £41 million fee that had the potential to reach £45 million. Jota remains Wolves’ fourth most expensive departure.

Jota hasn’t done badly at Anfield, scoring 64 goals and registering 22 assists in 174 games in all competitions, but Arne Slot, like Pereira, needs more consistent firepower, and that could force the 28-year-old to make way.

Although the Old Gold would love to welcome Jota back to the Midlands, the required fee would exceed the £40 million the club paid Atletico Madrid for Cunha two years ago — and that is not something Fosun are likely to sanction.

TBR Football’s Head of Football Graeme Bailey spoke exclusively to Molineux News about Jota’s proposed return to Molineux and explained why it is very unlikely to happen.

“Wolves have not discussed Jota internally, I know that,” Bailey said.

“If he was available I have no doubt they might consider it but his fee would be huge, over £50 million – I don’t see anything in that, to be honest and have not heard anything.”

Although Pereira would love to sign a new forward to help ease the burden on Jorgen Strand Larsen, the 56-year-old will have to look at cheaper options even if Cunha does leave for big money.
