How Wolves now feel about Matheus Cunha future as Premier League rivals ‘pay close attention’

Wolves are reaping the benefits of signing Matheus Cunha in January 2023 as the Brazilian continues to excel.

There’s arguably no player better than Cunha at Wolves right now and Gary O’Neil is a very lucky man.

The former Atletico Madrid forward has directly contributed to 43% of Wolves’ goals in the Premier League this season, leading by example as the Old Gold earned their first three points against Southampton.

Cunha’s form is a positive for O’Neil’s side, who are in the midst of a relegation battle however, the club will be wary that they’re not the only admirers of their Brazilian superstar.

Wolves transfer news: Matheus Cunha interest reported

For all of O’Neil’s faults at Molineux, the manager must be applauded for the levels he’s guided Cunha to.

In his first season at Wolves, some were wondering why Julen Lopetegui opted to pay £43m for the forward who was quite frankly shy in front of goal.

Cunha went from scoring two in 20 under Lopetegui to 19 in 48 under O’Neil, telling of the Englishman’s impact on the striker’s outlook.

Wolves will hope that the good times with Cunha last forever although, whether that will be the case is a different story.

Amid the Brazil international’s stellar form, sources close to Molineux News informed of incoming interest in the 25-year-old.

Sources told us that some “bigger” Premier League clubs are beginning to “pay close attention” to Cunha’s early form this season.

While interest in the former LaLiga star is expected, it’s understood that it’s incredibly unlikely that the 2023 arrival could be pried away from Molineux before the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

The feeling around Molineux is that Cunha is indispensable to O’Neil’s project and is to some degree, Wolves’ ticket to having a chance at survival.

The Midlands club feel no pressure to offload talent in January, with there almost no chance that the Brazilian will leave regardless of interest or value in the winter market.

Cunha is unstoppable right now

It’s rapidly become clear that Matt Hobbs pulled off a masterclass in signing Cunha from Atletico in January 2023, with his price tag quickly turning from a fortune to a bargain.

O’Neil has assisted Cunha in becoming a well-thought-of forward in the Premier League, seeing the 25-year-old go from strength to strength in a struggling Wolves side.

From inspiring his teammates to bringing a tireless energy, the Brazil international is unstoppable and that’s not going unnoticed in the top-flight.

Wolves will be aware that players of Cunha’s calibre will generate interest, emphasising the importance of enjoying the number 10’s magic at Molineux.
