How Wolves’ Jorgen Strand Larsen reacted after being told he won’t join Newcastle on deadline day

It’s a big day for Wolves on transfer deadline day, and all eyes are on Jorgen Strand Larsen.

The striker has been the subject of intense speculation in recent days, with Newcastle United making two bids for the player.

One week ago, Newcastle saw a £50 million bid for Strand Larsen turned down.

One day later, after Jorgen Strand Larsen came off the bench in the Carabao Cup game against West Ham United, Newcastle failed with a second bid.

The stance from Wolves in recent days has been that they want to keep Strand Larsen.

Jorge Mendes was apparently trying to encourage Newcastle over Strand Larsen, but the club have stood firm.

And now there’s word of the club’s stance on deadline day.

Fans are nervous as to what the outcome will be with Strand Larsen today.

It’s been suggested that Chelsea were in the picture for Strand Larsen, but they are bringing back Marc Guiu which suggests that is a non-starter.

But Newcastle remain the most strongly linked team, but Wolves are set to stand firm today.

Journalist Craig Hope said: “As for Alexander Isak replacements… Newcastle are still trying for Yoane Wissa but Brentford’s £65m asking price is prohibitive, as it stands.”

“Wolves stance on Jorgen Strand-Larsen has not changed & they say he is NOT for sale.”

Hope said in another message this morning that Strand Larsen has accepted this stance from Wolves: “As of this morning, Yoane Wissa is more possible than Jorgen Strand-Larsen, who has been told by Wolves he will not be sold. Sources say he has accepted that stance.”

Wolves and JSL deserve credit

So it’s looking very much as though, after a lot of noise, it could be all quiet with Strand Larsen on deadline day.

And both he and Wolves deserve a lot of credit for their handling of the situation.

It hasn’t been ideal, but Strand Larsen has shown great professionalism throughout all of this, and Wolves have thankfully been steadfast in their approach, recognising that to sell would be to jeopardise the club’s Premier League status even more.
