How Wolves feel about potential sale of ‘unbelievable’ first-teamer

Wolves would prefer not to sell one of their first-team players this summer, after he was lined with a Premier League giant.

Wanderers sold captain Max Kilman last week, after initially demanding £45 million. In the end, Wanderers accepted a £40 million offer from West Ham United.

Julen Lopetegui had set his sights firmly on his former player, and Wolves will now see about signing a replacement, with David Carmo having been mentioned as a possibility.

There continues to be speculation about Pedro Neto and Rayan Ait-Nouri, but on Sunday night, a surprising claim was made.

Arsenal are keen to sign Wolves number two goalkeeper Dan Bentley as back up for David Raya.

It has now been suggested how Wolves are feeling about the situation.

Bentley joined Wolves in January 2023 from Bristol City.

He has only made nine appearances for the Wolves first-team since his arrival, with Jose Sa obviously the mainstay in goal.

But Bentley has been deemed a successful signing mainly due to the leadership qualities he brings. He also has a strong mentality.

Wolves would therefore prefer to keep the 30-year-old, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

Jacobs adds that Wolves would only look to sell Bentley if the club can use the money generated from the sale to fund a replacement. He wrote on X: “Wolves preference is to keep second-choice goalkeeper Dan Bentley, who is viewed as a positive dressing-room influence.

“Arsenal have made an approach, but Bentley will only be sold if Wolves can find and fund a replacement via his exit. Bentley has one year left on his current contract, but Wolves have the option to extend his deal by two extra years. Talks ongoing.”

It was suggested earlier today that Wolves would be looking for around £1 million to sell.

Bentley would be a miss

While some Wolves fans don’t feel Bentley is anything too special regarding his quality as an actually goalkeeper, he would definitely be a miss in the dressing room if he left.

Bentley – described as ‘an unbelievable guy’ by Tom King last week – has always given the impression at Wolves he is a real leader.

He was quickly incorporated into the leadership group, and even helped create a fines list at Compton Park.

Gary O’Neil said earlier this year he doesn’t feel there is a great deal between Sa and Bentley, so the manager probably wouldn’t be overly keen to see him go.

But the player’s stance here might be what makes something happen.

Bentley is ex-Arsenal, and may well fancy a return to his former club. But it sounds like Wolves would need to find a replacement if anything is to happen.
