How Pedro Neto really felt about leaving Wolves after £54m Chelsea transfer agreed

Pedro Neto’s transfer from Wolves to Chelsea is imminent after the two clubs agreed a deal for the winger.

Gary O’Neil would have been braced to lose Pedro Neto this summer as the winger shone for Wolves last season.

The Portgual international claimed nine assists and scored twice in the Premier League, showcasing unplayable form on the right flank when he was fit.

Now, it looks like the 24-year-old will make Stamford Bridge his new home as Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Neto from Wolves.

Gary O’Neil says Pedro Neto is ‘emotional’ about leaving Wolves to join Chelsea

After standing firm all summer with clubs eyeing Neto, Wolves have agreed a price in the region of £54m to part ways with the Portuguese forward.

Neto’s five-year association with Wolves is set to end in the coming days as his transfer to Chelsea has gathered rapid pace this week.

The winger will forever be adored at Molineux for his efforts for the club and the excitement he provided in Old Gold, as O’Neil shared how the 24-year-old is feeling ahead of his transfer being finalised, via Express and Star

“I’m gutted to lose him. He was quite emotional as he’s been here for a long time,” O’Neil explained.

“I know he likes it here and he really enjoyed his time before I was here and with us, but when big clubs come calling you have a big decision to make.”

There was an understanding this summer that Wolves would allow Neto to depart if their asking price was met, with Chelsea’s fee coming £6m under the club’s £60m valuation of Neto.

Neto will be missed greatly at Wolves

While figures that read 11 Premier League goals in 111 appearances don’t seem irreplaceable, the threat that Neto can cause on his day is something that any club would struggle to replace.

O’Neil admitted that the club were aware it would be a “challenge” to keep hold of the right-winger this summer, adding that he is indeed “irreplaceable” for where Wolves currently are.

Had injury troubles not dismantled Neto’s time at Molineux, the 24-year-old could have left with legendary status however, his record only reinforces the strength of the deal Wolves have secured.

Everyone at Wolves will wish Neto all the best with his endeavours in West London, as O’Neil is now left with a significant void to fill in attack.
