Wolves fans were surprised to learn last weekend that Newcastle United were showing interest in Jorgen Strand Larsen.
The Magpies are currently dealing with a very unwanted situation on their part, with striker Alexander Isak not with the squad amid transfer speculation.
Isak recently informed Newcastle of his desire to explore other opportunities this summer.
At the moment, he is training with his old club Real Sociedad, while Newcastle go through their pre-season preparations in Singapore.
The situation has significance for Wolves, because Newcastle apparently like Jorgen Strand Larsen as a potential replacement.
And tonight a further update has been offered regarding how Newcastle currently see the Norwegian.

Jorgen Strand Larsen a ‘dark horse’ transfer target for Newcastle

Jorgen Strand Larsen has only just turned his loan move to Wolves permanent after a successful first season at Molineux.
It’s thought Strand Larsen actually triggered the buy option automatically a while back, after meeting the required number of appearances needed.
But seemingly, that doesn’t matter to Newcastle, who find themselves in a position of potentially needing to replace Isak ahead of a season in which they will play Champions League football.
According to journalist Craig Hope, who covers Newcastle and is currently out in Singapore reporting on the team, Strand Larsen is indeed someone the Magpies like.
He says that, currently, Newcastle see him as the ‘dark horse’ target.
Newcastle’s shortlist at the moment right now, in no particular order is:
- Rodrigo Muniz – Fulham
- Benjamin Sesko – RB Leipzig
- Jorgen Strand Larsen – Wolves
- Ollie Watkins – Aston Villa
Wolves striker Strand Larsen is going nowhere
There will be fury if Fosun cash in on Strand Larsen this summer – and the Wolves owners simply cannot entertain the idea and surely won’t risk the backlash.
We know the stance tends to be that every player has a price. But Strand Larsen is one of only a few players at Wolves who should actually be deemed untouchable, with Andre and Joao Gomes another couple who fall into that category.
Strand Larsen literally just turned his move permanent for £23 million (BBC Sport) after a brilliant season in which he scored 14 goals – with all of those from open play.

Newcastle’s admiration is understandable, of course. But there should be zero chance of them getting Strand Larsen if Isak goes.
Thankfully, the language used by Hope in his report suggests he won’t be the top target.
But if Isak does leave them, and Sesko heads to Manchester United, then that could see them come calling for Strand Larsen.
But Wolves must resist any huge offers to keep Strand Larsen, who Steve Bull is sure will be even better in 2025/26.
