How much clubs would need to pay to sign Diogo Jota amid claim Wolves are interested

Wolves are set for a very interesting summer, after Vitor Pereira changed the picture at the club to suggest he’s someone who can bring back the good times.

Wolves are finishing the season very strongly, and are currently on a six-game winning streak.

Only a few months ago, Wanderers were in a world of trouble.

The appointment of Vitor Pereira was a gamble. But it has paid off massively, and now fans want to see the Portuguese backed properly by Fosun.

But Fosun adopt a self-sustaining model at Molineux, and it’s been suggested that could be the approach once again.

The likelihood is that we see fees paid for players similar to what was paid for Emmanuel Agbadou, Marshall Munetsi and Andre.

But fans will hold out hope that one big-money signing will be made – and Diogo Jota is someone who has again been linked with a return to the club.

Liverpool have just won the Premier League title, and it has been another decent season for Jota.

He’s had some injury problems again, but has still scored nine goals and made four assists across 34 appearances.

But it has been suggested for a while now that Jota is a player who could be moved on this summer, as Liverpool look to reinforce in the transfer market.

Caught Offside have a report about the Portuguese today, and they claim Wolves are interested in the player.

But Aston Villa and Newcastle United both like him too, and there is – of course – interest from Saudi Arabia in the form of Al-Hilal, Al-Ittihad and Al-Nassr.

And there is word of a potential asking price.

Any club looking to buy Jota this summer will have to bid in the region of €50-55 million (£42.5-£47 million).

Jota return to Wolves is highly unlikely

Molineux News was recently told a return to Wolves for Jota would be unlikely, with the club having not even discussed him at that point.

And if there is truth in this asking price Liverpool have set, and interest from Wolves in the player, then surely there’s little chance of seeing Jota in a Wolves shirt next season.

Matheus Cunha will leave Wolves and Jota could potentially be a replacement for the Brazilian.

However, Wolves having to pay what they sold him for in 2020 just isn’t going to happen, especially given the player’s injury record.

The top end fee Wolves will pay for a single player may only be around £20 million this summer according to Liam Keen, and given the success of recent recruits, that would be understandable.
