How likely Jhon Arias is to leave Wolves in January as ‘first contact’ is made

Jhon Arias has been linked with a move away from Molineux after failing to make the desired impact at Wolves since arriving in the summer.

The January rumours are coming thick and fast.

On Tuesday, reports from France claimed several clubs are interested in signing Marshall Munetsi, and now Arias is the subject of similar talk.

This time, though, the whispers are coming from Brazil, and they suggest a plan is in motion.

Jhon Arias was only recently quoted speaking defiantly amid his Wolves struggles. How much time should he be given?😬

“Would I sign for Wolves again? Yes, totally. I’m very calm about my decision. I knew there would be difficulties, but I like a challenge because they’re the best way to grow and learn, by stepping out of your comfort zone. Days of glory and joy will come.”

Reports of Flamengo approach to sign Jhon Arias from Wolves

The rumours have been swirling in Brazil since last month. Fluminense have been linked with a move for Arias, and Palmeiras have also made their interest known.

But it’s league-winners Flamengo who appear to have made the most concrete of moves, making first contact with the Colombian.

That’s according to Paparazzo Rubro-Negro, a Flamengo-affiliated outlet, who report: “According to a source linked to the board, Flamengo made the first contact for Jhon Arias and presented a project to the Colombian, who has not yet responded. Even so, there is optimism among the rubro-negro directors.”

The deal is still in its infancy, but the desire to pluck Arias out of Wolverhampton is real.

Desire on one end is only half the battle, though.

Assessing the Jhon Arias situation for January

This report suggests Arias will be a target for the upcoming winter window, but it doesn’t mean Wolves will allow him to leave.

From what we have heard, Arias is unlikely to leave in January despite his struggles at Molineux.

That could change, though, if formal offers start coming in and Wolves can recoup most of their investment. He’s not a key player in Rob Edwards’ side as much as we would like him to be.

With each result, the prospects of the Championship next season grow and grow. If the drop is in store, it’s hard to see Arias sticking around past the summer anyway.

In addition, the ‘optimism’ coming from Flamengo must have some basis in reality.

Wolves fans, would you welcome Jhon Arias being sold in January?

He cannot seem to get going 😕

The January window is going to see plenty of conversations started over Wolves players, especially if points continue to elude the Old Gold.

With three teams potentially moving for Arias already, that decision to hold onto him might be revisited.
