How Darwin Nunez could ruin one potential Wolves transfer plan this summer

Wolves are set for another busy summer, with a number of players likely to be moving on to new clubs.

The most likely outgoing is surely Matheus Cunha, with that £62.5 million release clause bound to appeal to several clubs.

Nelson Semedo could leave Wolves as well, since he is out of contract. As could Pablo Sarabia.

And then, there is Fabio Silva.

Silva has been out on loan this season with Las Palmas, and has actually had a pretty good time of it over in Spain.

So far, he’s scored seven goals in 18 games and recently, it was claimed Silva was attracting interest from Atletico Madrid.

But it looks as though any plan Wolves have to negotiate with Atletico over Silva could be complicated.

It has been reported by Caught Offside that Atletico Madrid are also now looking at Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez.

It is stated by Caught Offside that Nunez is ‘greatly admired’ by Atleti boss Diego Simeone, who is looking to make changes to his attack.

Interestingly, Fabio Silva is actually also mentioned in the report.

He is on Atleti’s list, as is Jean-Philippe Mateta of Crystal Palace.

Silva recently talked up Atletico Madrid as one of the best clubs in the world and also praised Simeone, in what felt like a big hint he’d be open to a transfer.

Fabio Silva highly likely to leave Wolves this summer

Atletico clearly aren’t too put off by the struggles of either Silva or Nunez at Liverpool and Wolves respectively.

But this is no real surprise – historically, they’ve tended to get it right when it comes to buying strikers.

And Atletico are no strangers to signing strikers from Uruguay specifically, having boasted Luis Suarez and Diego Forlan before.

It will be very intriguing to see which player they push for, although Wolves will certainly be hoping it’s their man Silva.

He is having a productive spell over in Spain and may feel there is a decent chance of actually making some money back on Silva in the summer.

He arrived at Molineux for £35.6 million in 2020 and there will be no chance of getting that much. But Atleti have not been afraid to spend fairly big on strikers, so Wolves will be hoping their internet in Nunez isn’t as strong as it is in Silva.

Earlier this season, journalist Liam Keen said Silva was almost 100% certain to leave Wolves this summer, and it’s hard to imagine him sticking around.

Especially since Silva has admitted he never really wanted his move to Wolves in the first place, and has opened the door to leaving.
