How close Juventus actually came to signing Andre from Wolves amid Molineux exodus

Many players left Wolves this summer, but to the relief of many, Andre stayed put at Molineux.

Game-changing players like Matheus Cunha, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Pablo Sarabia all departed, meaning Wolves could now struggle at the top end of the pitch.

Goncalo Guedes also left, having provided 10 goals and assists across all competitions last term.

At one point in the summer, there was also some speculation about Andre.

It rather came out of the blue when Juventus were linked with Andre, who had enjoyed a pretty good second half of the season for Wolves under Vitor Pereira.

He took some time to get going, and arguably wasn’t used in the best way by Gary O’Neil. But by the end of the campaign, there was an acceptance that he was one of Wolves’ best players.

Thankfully he went nowhere in the summer, and a brief line about Juventus’ interest has now been shared.

There is an argument now to say that Andre is Wolves’ best player, after Matheus Cunha left.

The Brazilian is a midfield metronome who has a very hard role to play, and yet he often makes it look easy in there.

He has to be the link between defence and attack, has to put out fires and also offer himself all the time and recycle possession.

Dave Edwards previously called Andre one of the best sixes in the Premier League, so for Wolves to have lost him as well this summer would have been disastrous.

But thankfully, a move to Juventus for Andre was never a huge possibility.

The reliable Tom Collomosse reported in an article for the Daily Mail on Tuesday that ‘Andre was targeted by Juventus earlier in the window but the process never progressed beyond initial enquiries, and Wolves were always reluctant to sell the Brazilian’.

Andre will be a target for other clubs in 2026

Wolves will surely struggle this season.

The recruitment strategy has been extremely questionable, and all of the new signings are essentially gambles.

Wolves have lost players who were proven performers in the Premier League, who provided goals and assists.

One would imagine that Andre – and also his midfielder partner Joao Gomes – will be on the radars of other clubs in 2026.

The Brazilian pair are excellent at what they do, and could both be playing for clubs in Europe, or clubs pushing for Europe.

It would be naive to think they won’t be the next players targeted for moves away, and if Wolves go down one would imagine they’ll both be gone on the first day of the 2026 summer window opening.

Andre recently missed out on a Brazil call-up, and the reality is playing in a struggling Wolves team is likely not doing his international prospects any favours.
