How Christantus Uche performed for Getafe on Monday night amid Wolves rumours

Wolves fans got a glimpse of possible new signing Christantus Uche in a La Liga clash with Sevilla.

Christantus Uche has been close to a Wolves move for some time now.

The deal was thought to be signed and sealed, but Getafe are stalling Wolves, and there seems to be some internal disagreement on Uche’s future.

But last night gave Wolves fans the chance to see what all the fuss is about, and they may have been disappointed.

Wolves target Christantus Uche didn’t have his best performance vs Sevilla

From what we’ve seen of Uche, he’s an exciting attacking player who is direct and powerful with the ability to score and create.

Unfortunately, he didn’t put in his best showing for Getafe on Monday.

Uche had a quiet game in Getafe’s 2-1 win, taking just two shots and failing to create a single chance. One of those efforts was at point-blank range and should have been a goal.

The positive to take from it was that the Nigerian was in the right place when a loose ball broke to him in the centre of the box.

His possession play was poor, managing just 55% pass accuracy and only finding success with 40% of his dribbles. On the bright side, he did win half of his aerial duels.

Christantus Uche can offer Wolves a lot more than we saw

Monday night’s performance won’t be pleasant viewing for Wolves fans, who want a clinical forward brought into the team. But this was an unfortunate game to base judgment on.

Getafe’s season-opener was a much better indicator of why Wolves want Uche.

In a 2-0 win over Celta Vigo, who Wolves struggled against in pre-season, the Nigerian was involved in both goals, scoring one and assisting the other.

In both instances, he showcased his incredible pace with runs in behind, and his goal was particularly impressive, taking the ball around the keeper and slotting into an empty net.

Don’t be mistaken. Uche is a real talent. His Β£17 million price tag is a symptom of the FFP pressures on Getafe at present. If Wolves can get this deal done, he’ll add exactly the energy and excitement Vitor Pereira’s attack has been crying out for.
