‘Great business’: Matt Hobbs says Wolves stand to gain off of ‘very talented’ 26-year-old

Wolves sporting director Matt Hobbs has confirmed that there is a sell-on clause in the deal that has taken Matija Sarkic to Millwall.

The 26-year-old has now officially completed a move to the Championship side.

He has brought to an end his three-year stint at Molineux, and his exit was rather expected this summer.

Wolves signed Dan Bentley in January to become the club’s new number two.

And this summer, the club moved to sign Tom King on a free transfer to become the new number three.

Sarkic, who had been poised to rejoin Stoke City, has now completed a move to Millwall after undergoing his medical yesterday.

Matt Hobbs speaks on Matija Sarkic as star leaves Wolves, confirms sell-on clause

Sarkic only made three first-team appearances for Wolves, having had a few loan spells during his time at the club.

He had aspirations of becoming the club’s number one.

But ultimately it didn’t really work out for him.

But he will now embark on an exciting new chapter, with a team in a division he knows well.

He could well thrive, and Wolves will hope he does because Hobbs has confirmed today that there is a sell-on clause in the deal that has taken Sarkic to the Lions.

There are also ‘bonuses’ Wolves stand to gain.

He said (via Wolves official): “Firstly, this is a good move for Matija. He needs to find a home, rather than keep going out on loan, and start his career properly.

“He’s been great around to place, he’s a great person and a really talented goalkeeper, so now he needs a good run, injury free. We really hope he kicks on.

“Whenever you bring in a player, the ideal situation is you make money when they leave. We signed Matija for free and turned it into a transfer, along with bonuses and a sell on percentage, so it’s great business for us and a great move for him. Everyone’s happy and he goes with our best wishes.”

A fresh start for Sarkic

This was the right move for all parties.

Sarkic is a decent ‘keeper but ultimately he wasn’t quite at the level required to replace Jose Sa and become number one at Molineux.

Wolves obviously signed Bentley earlier this year, and that was kind of the nail in the coffin for him at Wolves. Not that he would have been happy with being a number two.

Sarkic now has a chance to firmly establish himself at Millwall.

He knows the Championship and has performed well previously.

Hopefully it goes really well for him and perhaps he could net Wolves a small windfall in the future.
