Genk make official announcement that may be ominous as Wolves pursue Tolu Arokodare

Wolves fans are still unsure what striker options are going to be available to Vitor Pereira after the transfer window closes.

At the moment, Wolves have Jorgen Strand Larsen, Sasa Kalajdzic and Hwang Hee-chan to call on.

But speculation has been rife about Jorgen Strand Larsen with Newcastle attempting to sign him.

The Magpies have had two bids turned down for the star, and have potentially now moved on, with reports suggesting Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade is the man they are now moving for.

Wolves have wanted to keep Strand Larsen and sign another striker to compete with him and Kalajdzic.

And one man who has been on Wolves’ radar is Tolu Arokodare.

Arokodare would come as cover and competition for Strand Larsen, and at the moment Wolves and Genk are in dialogue over a potential deal.

And tonight, there’s been a development which could point to some movement very soon.

Tonight, Genk are in Europa League action against Lech Poznan.

The Belgian side are hoping to finish the job, and are currently up 5-1 from the first leg.

Their team news for tonight’s game is now in and interestingly, and potentially ominously, Arokodare has not been included in the matchday squad.

At the moment, there is no word from Genk or anyone from the club as to his whereabouts and why he’s not playing.

But the development is bound to fuel speculation that Wolves are closing in on the Nigeria international.

Wolves must wrap up Arokodare signing

It has been an extremely frustrating window at times for Wolves, but landing Arokodare would be a positive step.

Especially if that is coupled with keeping Strand Larsen, which now appears to be a stronger possibility with Newcastle going for Woltemade.

Arokodare – who apparently has a gentleman’s agreement to leave Genk for a certain fee – isn’t playing against Lech Poznan, which may well indicate he’s not being risked with a transfer in the offing.

But time will tell if the reason really is because Wolves are closing in.

Hopefully, there will indeed be news of a breakthrough very soon, and Wanderers can get the big man in.
