One Wolves star could command interest from multiple clubs in the January transfer window despite struggling at the start of this season.
The January window is on the horizon and Gary O’Neil will be looking to strengthen his Wolves squad to give them a boost in the race for survival.
The key position O’Neil needs to strengthen is at centre-back with only two fit senior options available in Craig Dawson and Toti Gomes, as Santi Bueno suffered a groin injury on national duty with Uruguay.
Bueno’s injury may not be serious enough to keep him out for long however, it is clear that since the long-term injury to Yerson Mosquera, the OId Gold have needed to strengthen at the back.
Wolves have recently been linked to Eric Dier from Bayern Munich, who would be a crucial signing, while there may also be potential outgoings.
Wolves could lose Hwang Hee-chan in the January transfer window
Despite their poor start to the season – currently sitting in 19th position – Wolves do have a talented squad that commands interest from bigger clubs.
Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |

Joao Gomes was previously linked with Manchester United while Chelsea and Liverpool reportedly want to sign Rayan Ait-Nouri.
Gomes and Ait-Nouri perhaps deserve to be playing for a side higher up the division and they aren’t the only players catching the eye of several clubs.

According to journalist Nathan Judah, attacker Hwang Hee-chan could field ‘enquiries’ from some of the Premier League and teams abroad, after Marseille monitored Hwang’s situation during the summer.
“I tell you what, if you’re a club and you talk about a lot of Premier League and overseas managers like Hwang Hee Chan, they will be looking at this situation at this moment in time, I promise you,” Judah said on the E&S podcast.
“And he probably could be the most popular player to be linked with a move out of Wolves this January, because I’m pretty sure that Marseille might come back in for him, they’ll look at his usage, look at that he’s not particularly happy.
“And there’s a lot of Premier League managers, a lot of Premier League teams that could do with Hwang Hee Chan, that I think will make enquiries. Now, I hope that Wolves do not sell. I really don’t.”
Hwang must improve after poor start to the season
Interest in Hwang during the summer was expected after he plundered 12 Premier League goals, putting him joint-level with Matheus Cunha.
Now, the South Korean forward has struggled to replicate such form in 2024/25, failing to find the net or assist in any of his eight appearances.
Admittedly, Hwang damaged his ligaments in October and the 28-year-old has been out ever since however, once he returns after the break, he must perform with the same aggression, intensity and quality that was shown last season.
Premier League statistics | Hwang Hee-chan 2023/24 stats | Hwang Hee-chan 2024/25 stats |
Appearances | 29 | 6 |
Goals | 12 | 0 |
Assists | 3 | 0 |
Shots per game | 1.6 | 0 |
Key passes | 0.6 | 0.3 |
Accurate passes per game | 14.2 (78%) | 7.5 (82%) |
Big chances created | 4 | 1 |
While the sample size is smaller so far this term, by this stage last season Hwang had six goals and two assists in the top flight, compared to zero in 2024/25.
It’s an alarming drop-off that hasn’t been helped by injury, though the £14m star must use it as motivation to get back to his best and show why he’s a quality Premier League forward.
