Gary O’Neil faces decision as £8.5m Wolves gem has his ‘bags already packed’ amid transfer links

Gary O’Neil is expected to make a decision on one Wolves player’s future this summer, as one club eyes his next move.

The summer transfer window has been strong for Wolves so far, as Gary O’Neil and Matt Hobbs have completed the signings of four players.

Tommy Doyle, Rodrigo Gomes, Jorgen Strand Larsen and Pedro Lima represent the opening arrivals of the 2024 transfer window, with plenty more movement expected.

Aside from arrivals, several players are expected to bid farewell to Wolves, with one rarely-seen star’s future being frequently speculated.

Chiquinho waiting on green light from Gary O’Neil to leave Wolves amid Sporting CP interest

After spending the 2023/24 season on loan at Famalicao, Chiquinho has returned to Compton Park this summer to see where his future lies.

There’s an understanding that the 24-year-old will be assessed by O’Neil before a decision is made on his next steps, with Sporting CP pushing to sign the winger.

In a fresh update, Portuguese outlet Record have claimed that the Wolves boss will make a decision on Chiquinho’s transfer stance before the squad’s pre-season tour of the United States.

The opening fixture of the tour comes on July 27th, with Record claiming that Chiquinho’s bags are ‘already packed’ following Wolves’ time in Marbella.

The report details Sporting’s admiration for the winger, who contributed to nine goals in Liga Portugal last season for Famalicao, with Wolves holding out for a £8.5m fee to part ways with the forward.

Decision on Chiquinho is difficult for Wolves

With it speculated that Wolves have a clear asking price for Chiquinho, it would be assumed that the club would be willing to let him go at such price.

That being said, it’s not that easy, as O’Neil must properly assess the player that he hasn’t seen much of since his arrival at the club last summer.

The winger has plenty of talent to offer to the manager, as Chiquinho was described as ‘absolute class’ during Wolves’ pre-season training in Marbella.

If Pedro Neto is to leave the club amid speculation, O’Neil will want to ensure that he isn’t going into the 2024/25 campaign carrying the same problems as last term, with increased squad depth being a must next season.

Chiquinho could have a role to play at Wolves however, the capacity of such role is yet to be determined, giving O’Neil a particularly difficult decision to make as interest swarms.
