‘From what I understand’: Journalist shares club’s position to sign ‘outstanding’ 23-year-old from Wolves

Pedro Neto is a target for Arsenal – and a journalist that covers the club has given some information about the potential for the Gunners to sign the Wolves winger.

Neto has made an outstanding start to the new season.

He has five assists already, and has scored one goal.

Neto is thriving again after a tough past couple of years with injuries.

Inevitably, there has been some speculation about his future, and Arsenal have again been mentioned as a potential suitor.

Arsenal have long admired Neto.

And journalist James Benge has been speaking about whether the Gunners could move for Neto in January…

Arsenal will have difficult signing Pedro Neto from Wolves in January

Both agreed Neto is very much an Arsenal-type player.

But on the potential for the north London club to actually sign him in January, Benge did not seem too hopeful.

He said: “We’ve just been talking about what his presence would mean for Wolves’ survival. I think you have to say what Arsenal would think of as a fair fee.

“I’m sure Arsenal would go into this if their long-standing interest crystalises into a January offer, and I have to say, I’ve not been told anything is imminent. From what I understand of the financials, it would certainly involve some pretty detailed conversations with ownership about how you can finance that deal. Because Arsenal ran into complications financing the signing of David Raya. They managed to do it, but it was something they had to consider. Mid-season signing Pedro Neto, very expensive.”

Wolves should be asking for £70 million minimum

From these comments, it sounds like Arsenal may have some difficultly affording Neto mid-season.

If the January window opened tomorrow, Wolves should not hesitate to demand at least £70 million.

Neto has been Wolves’ best player this season. As Molineux legend John Richards said, he’s been ‘outstanding’. Take him out of the team, and the picture is completely different for Wolves.

He is absolutely crucial. If he’s not in the team, then it’s possible Hwang Hee-chan’s form takes a real dip too, as those two have been superb linking up together.

Neto has a contract with Wolves until 2027. So Wolves are in a very strong position.

Matheus Nunes has just been sold for £53 million, and the midfielder blew very hot and cold during his time at Molineux.

If any side comes knocking for Neto, Wolves should not really entertain them.

But if Neto expresses a desire to leave, then perhaps £70 million should be the asking price.
