Francisco Trincao to be presented as Sporting player today, he could face Wolves very soon

Francisco Trincao is set to be presented by Sporting CP today.

The winger is embarking on a new chapter, after enduring an underwhelming loan spell with Wolves.

The 22-year-old spent the 2021/22 season at Molineux, but failed to make an impression and ultimately turn the move permanent.

Wanderers had an option to pay Barcelona £25 million to sign him.

But officials decided not to exercise the option, placing on record their thanks to the player for his contributions.

Trincao is now set to join Sporting CP back in his homeland of Portugal.

Sporting are reportedly paying Barcelona €10 million (£8.5 million), with the Spanish giants having a buy-back clause.

According to O Jogo, the player should be announced as a new Sporting player today.

Trincao is currently in the Algarve with his new teammates.

According to the report, he likely won’t feature for Sporting in their pre-season games against Saint-Gilloise today and Villarreal tomorrow.

Interestingly, Sporting do actually take on Wolves in pre-season on July 30.

So it is fairly likely that he will be getting some minutes against the club that just turned down the chance to sign him.

He will undoubtedly be out to prove a point.

An early Wolves reunion with Trincao joining Sporting

So Wolves will face Besiktas where they will likely face Romain Saiss, and now it looks as though there will be a swift reunion with Trincao.

It is a shame his loan move didn’t really work out.

He is a very talented player, but he just couldn’t find consistency at Molineux and didn’t particularly take to the Premier League and its intensity.

Wanderers were right to turn down the chance to buy him.

But it will now be interesting to see how he gets on back in his homeland.

He stands a good chance of flourishing, just like he did for Braga. Being a couple of years older now, he could really shine for the Lions.
