Fosun could be about to pull a sly money-saving move with Wolves’ latest transfer offer for star who recently scored in Champions League

Wolves are working hard to bring in two more players before next week’s transfer Deadline Day. Vitor Pereira wants another centre-back and defensive midfielder.

The Old Gold are desperate to make more signings. After Wolves lost to Arsenal last weekend and Leicester City beat Spurs, Pereira’s side are now inside the relegation zone.

And with speculation surrounding the future of Mario Lemina, Wolves’ owners must use what time is left in the window to give Pereira more options.

Wolves make offer for Monaco star

Wolves are looking to add quality to the centre of the pitch. Lemina looks to be on his way, and even if the 31-year-old doesn’t leave this window, his contract is unlikely to be renewed at the end of the season.

This would leave a big hole, but one Wolves believe Monaco’s Soungoutou Magassa is capable of filling.

According to Santi Aouna, the Old Gold have made Monaco an undisclosed offer for Magassa in the hope the young Frenchman will be allowed to leave the Louis II Stadium.

Wolves’ opening offer, whatever the value, is ambitious. Magassa has only recently signed a contract extension keeping him in the Principality until 2029.

Kill two birds with one stone

Magassa, who came through Monaco’s youth academy, is quickly becoming one of Adi Hutter’s most highly rated players.

The 21-year-old has featured in 14 Ligue 1 games already this season and scored his first senior goal in the Champions League last November against Benfica.

While there may be some excitement surrounding Wolves’ approach for Magassa there should also be concerns that Fosun are trying to kill two birds with one stone.

Pereira has already admitted he wants a midfielder and a centre-back, and although Magassa’s natural position is in defensive midfield, he is often asked to form part of a three-man backline.

Speaking to Get Football News France after Monaco’s 2-1 win over FC Metz earlier in the season, Magassa, who was asked to play at centre-back in that game, said: “I wasn’t expecting to play in this position. I was used to filling in at centre back for 10-15 minutes but never a full 90.”

It’s great news that the Frenchman is so versatile — an attribute definitely undervalued in the Premier League — so targeting a player like Magassa makes a lot of sense, but he should be pursued in addition to a centre-back, not at the expense of one.
