Former Wolves favourite linked with Championship move after training banishment by Vitor Pereira

Players left Wolves, left, right and centre in the 2025 summer window, but one man’s exit is still shrouded in mystery.

There was an exodus at Molineux, which started with the £62.5 million sale of Matheus Cunha to Manchester United.

That move had been on the cards for months, but then the likes of Rayan Ait-Nouri, Pablo Sarabia, Nelson Semedo and Goncalo Guedes followed.

A bunch of loan moves were also sanctioned.

With doubt, Wolves’ transfer strategy this summer has been questionable to say the least.

We will now see if the new signings – none of whom have Premier League experience, can hit the ground running and help fans forget all about those that left.

Another player who left Wolves in the summer was Craig Dawson – and it seems there could be a chance for him to find a new club.

Dawson was once a nailed-on starter for Wolves.

He joined the club from West Ham United in January 2023, and played a key role in the club’s survival that season under Julen Lopetegui.

But Dawson’s final Wolves appearance came in December 2024 in a Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur.

Vitor Pereira then banished Dawson from training and left him out of Wolves’ updated Premier League squad, which essentially meant the end for him at Molineux, as his contract was to run out at the end of the season.

Pereira had admitted he wasn’t a fan of Dawson’s profile, and his exit was very low key.

Wolves announced it on X, but there hasn’t been a single word from Dawson about his exit, which has led to speculation that all wasn’t well at the end.

But Dawson could now be set for a new challenge.

Journalist Alan Nixon reported a few days ago that Blackburn Rovers are looking at a potential free swoop for the veteran.

Interestingly, it’s also claimed Dawson actually rejected a move from Birmingham City, for whom Tommy Doyle is currently playing on loan.

Dawson was linked with Wrexham early in the summer, but nothing materialised.

Craig Dawson was a great signing by Wolves

Dawson remains a free agent for now, but it will be interesting to see if he’ll be tempted by a move to Blackburn.

His exit was a bit of a shame in the end, with him being left out of the updated squad for the second half of the season, meaning he couldn’t play.

The lack of acknowledgment from Dawson about his exit may well point to a complicated situation, although it must be said that the star was never a prominent user of social media.

But one thing is for sure, Dawson was a great addition by Wolves.

His contributions in the second half of the 2022/23 season were huge, with him and Mario Lemina vitally important signings that added steel and competitiveness to the team.

He was certainly a favourite of former boss Julen Lopetegui, who played him every single game after signing him, barring the final match against Arsenal.

The following season was more difficult, but most fans will certainly appreciate his service.
