Former Wolves and Premier League striker Patrick Cutrone is now hoping to rebuild his career in Italy’s second tier after leaving Molineux for a fresh start at Como 1907.
When Patrick Cutrone was donning the iconic number nine shirt at AC Milan, or when sealing a £16 million move to one of the most ambitious, upwardly-mobile teams in the Premier League back in 2019, the striker probably didn’t expect to be to be preparing for the visit of Catanzaro in Italy’s Serie B just four years down the line.
That, however, is the reality facing a striker forced to re-build his career from the ground up, a dreadful spell at Wolves taking a sledgehammer to his once-burgeoning reputation.

Patrick Cutrone flopped at Wolves
“After various loans, I needed serenity. Especially mental (serenity),” Cutrone tells Tuttomercatoweb, explaining his decision to depart Wolverhampton Wanderers on a permanent basis when hometown club Como came calling in the summer of 2022.
“I preferred to leave again but be happy. I had requests from some top leagues, but I deliberately chose Como because, here, I found a solid and long-lasting project. A choice I would make again.
“I’m really happy.”
Cutrone scored just three goals in 28 Wolves appearances. The one-time Italy international also struggled to make his mark during loan spells at Fiorentina, Valencia and Empoli.
A tally of nine during a respectable debut season at Como in 2022/23, however, has Cutrone hoping that better days are around the corner, especially with his new employers sitting sixth and forcing their way into the play-off picture.
‘I’m really happy’
“Those who had played in Serie B had told me about a tough and very physical. I actually saw that myself, too. But, thanks to the help of my team-mates and the club, I immediately integrated well,” the Lombardy-born Cutrone adds.
“Last year didn’t go bad, not even on a personal level. This year, we started even better, and so we have to to continue.
“Like all attackers, I aim to score as many goals as possible. I have a personal goal based on my growth and I hope to achieve it. What is important, however, is to help the team, to try to achieve the common goal over time.”
Cutrone has hit the net three times in nine Serie B appearances so far this term.
