Fluminense make official Jhon Arias announcement as transfer to Wolves edges closer

Wolves have endured a slow start to the summer transfer window, although the signing of Jhon Arias will go a long way to easing fans’ worries.

On Wednesday night, Wolves made a breakthrough in their pursuit of the Colombian, as a £19 million transfer was agreed for Arias.

With a fee and personal terms confirmed, Arias is set to undergo his medical next week ahead of signing a contract at Molineux.

Arias played his final game for Fluminense against Cruzeiro on Friday, and the 27-year-old was greeted with an incredible farewell by the supporters.

Now, with his transfer potentially days away from being announced, Fluminense have already moved a step ahead.

Fluminense officially confirm Jhon Arias transfer to Wolves

Throughout the whole process, Arias has acted professionally and not pushed hard for a move to the Premier League.

Although Arias dreams of playing in Europe, he has waited patiently and given his all to Fluminense, rather than throwing his toys out of the pram.

It says a lot about a player when the fans gave him a standing ovation as he left the pitch for the final time, and now, Fluminense have officially announced his transfer to Wolves.

They wrote on X: “Fluminense FC has completed the permanent transfer of attacking midfielder Jhon Arias to Wolverhampton, England. The club retains 10% of the economic rights for any future transfer of the Colombian player.”

Brazilian clubs tend to make a statement before the English clubs unveil the signing, and it happened when Andre completed his switch from Fluminense.

Arias just needs to obtain his visa and complete his medical before Wolves officially announce him as their second signing of the summer transfer window.

Ballon d’Or winner Kaka has praised Arias for how dangerous he is in the final third, something South American expert Tim Vickery was keen to point out.

Vickery was surprised Arias didn’t move to England sooner after his performance against Manchester City in the 2023 Club World Cup.

But after years of outstanding performances in Brazil, the diminutive winger will get his chance in the Premier League, starting with an opening day clash at home to Man City.
