Fabrizio Romano shares Wolves’ plan to sign £14.7m player ahead of Champions League club

Wolves have encountered problems in signing a new right-back to replace Nelson Semedo after his exit was officially confirmed this week.

While Semedo has since joined Fenerbahce, with the 31-year-old sharing his excitement to play under Jose Mourinho, Wolves are still no closer to sealing his successor.

In July, Wolves were close to signing Marc Pubill, but his preference was to join Atletico Madrid, and the 22-year-old was captured by the Spanish giants on a long-term contract.

Vitor Pereira was dealt a huge blow in not signing Pubill, seeing the talented wing-back as someone capable of playing in the Premier League.

The Old Gold have since moved on to one of his Spain under-21 teammates, and unfortunately, history could repeat itself.

Wolves planning better offer for Juanlu Sanchez

On Friday, it was revealed that Wolves had reached an agreement to sign Juanlu Sanchez from Sevilla after seeing a £14.7m bid accepted.

But in similar circumstances to the Pubill situation, the Wanderers are battling against a Champions League club for his signature.

Napoli have been pushing for the last month to sign him, and according to Fabrizio Romano, the Italian giants have agreed personal terms with the player.

As it stands, Wolves are trying to make a ‘better proposal’ to Sevilla, but unfortunately, with Juanlu preferring a move to Napoli instead, a sense of déjà vu is brewing at Molineux.

Pereira’s recruitment team have already lost out in negotiations against Atletico Madrid to sign Pubill, and if they’re not careful, their latest target could be heading for the Champions League.

That being said, Wolves have sent a better offer to Sevilla for the 21-year-old, and it is down to Napoli to either match that or admit defeat. Hopefully, the Serie A club will end their pursuit and open the door to the Premier League.

Wolves must sign a Nelson Semedo replacement before Man City

Losing Semedo was a huge blow for several reasons. He possessed the pace, dynamism and athleticism to wreak havoc down the right flank.

The Portuguese full-back also developed into an excellent leader, becoming captain at the back end of last year and never looking back.

Currently, Ki-Jana Hoever and Rodrigo Gomes are battling for the same spot down the right, but everyone knows Wolves need more quality.

Hoever was loaned out to Auxerre last term for a reason, and although he’s looked decent in pre-season, supporters wouldn’t be comfortable relying on him.

The same applies to Gomes, who isn’t ready to start regularly in the Premier League and needs to develop into the role.
