Fabrizio Romano drops intriguing update on Portuguese defender linked with Wolves

Wolves were recently linked with a defender who has now been the subject of a failed transfer bid.

Wolves have already brought in three new faces this summer, and also turned Tommy Doyle’s loan move to the club permanent.

All three have made a good impression so far in pre-season, and fans are hoping they can settle as quickly as possible and make a big impact in 2023/24.

One position that has been spoken about a little bit this summer is left-back.

Rayan Ait-Nouri seriously impressed last term, and has emerged as a target target for some big clubs, with Manchester United having been linked with the Algerian earlier this week.

Hugo Bueno’s future has also been discussed this year, with Celtic having shown interest.

Wolves were recently linked with a move for Farmalicao’s Francisco Moura, and Fabrizio Romano has dropped an interesting update.

It was claimed in June that Wolves were showing interest in Farmalicao left-back Francisco Moura.

Apparently, Wolves were one of the ‘main candidates’ to sign him, and he is expected to cost around £8.5 million this summer.

Moura made 36 appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals and making five assists.

Now, Fabrizio Romano says there has been some activity regarding Moura. He wrote on X: “Famalicão just refused an offer of €5m (£4.2m) from an English club for Francisco Moura.

“President Miguel Ribeiro won’t sell him for less than the buy-out clause of €7.5m (£6.3m) while SC Braga still have 50% sell-on clause.

“Ribeiro was the key for top deals like Ugarte (Sporting), Otavio and Ivan Jaime (FC Porto) while he almost joined Al-Nassr last summer as a sporting director.”

Romano does not reveal the name of the club who have failed with an offer.

Plenty of fans have been suggesting in the replies though that Wolves might have been the club, given the history of signing Portuguese players over the years.

Could it have been Wolves who bid for Moura?

So Moura was the subject of a bid, which Farmalicao have deemed unsatisfactory.

It would be interesting to know which club this was, but it feels unlikely that it was Wolves, purely because Gary O’Neil still has Ait-Nouri and Bueno.

Mind you, it cannot be ruled out that Wolves have bid for Moura, knowing that one of those two players will be leaving the club. That is a possibility.

But it would be surprising. Ait-Nouri seems likely to stay at the club now following the sale of Max Kilman.

Bueno might be someone Wolves do hear offers for. But around the same time as that first report dropped about Wolves’ interest in Moura, Bueno spoke of his desire to ‘get going again’ at Wolves. He said: “I’m already getting ready mentally and physically so I can give my best and hopefully next season I can give loads more.”
