Fabrizio Romano drops contract update about Matheus Cunha that will concern some Wolves fans

Wolves fans expected that Matheus Cunha would have signed a new contract at the club by now, but there has still not been any announcement from the club.

It was reported in December that Wolves were in talks with Cunha about him signing a new contract.

It was then suggested that a verbal agreement between Cunha and Wolves had been reached.

Then, Vitor Pereira gave a positive update on Cunha, insisting that he would not be losing sleep over the situation.

But despite the positive feeling about the situation, there still hasn’t been any official word from the club – because it isn’t quite fully done yet and last night, Fabrizio Romano gave an update on the situation which some may find slightly concerning.

Last night, Fabrizio Romano provided an update on the situation with Cunha’s new contract at Wolves.

He reports that there are still some ‘final details’ to iron out.

He wrote: “Matheus Cunha situation, still one to be monitored as Wolves insist to get new deal signed. After verbal agreement two weeks ago, there are still final details to clarify in order to sign.

“Arsenal have had Cunha on their list for months, more clubs are also attentive.”

The line about Arsenal’s interest in Cunha is interesting, given Mikel Arteta’s side have just been faltering of late.

Arsenal have drawn two of their last three Premier League games and also lost the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final against Newcastle United.

The Gunners also went out of the FA Cup to Manchester United on penalties.

Wolves will be relegated if Matheus Cunha is sold

That Cunha has not yet signed a new contract for Wolves is slightly concerning.

It’s been a few weeks since the club opened talks with the player, and there has still not yet been an official announcement of the extension.

The indications had been that Cunha will sign and fans will hope that is still the case.

But Wolves’ position is so precarious and defeat tonight against Chelsea might just have Cunha and his team thinking about other possibilities.

It would be extremely disappointing if he did go, after the suggestions about there being an agreement in place.

And if that did happen, then Wolves’ hopes of Premier League survival would take a massive hit. Certainly, few would look past relegation if the Brazilian left.
