Fabio Silva’s departure from Wolves is being held up by one crucial factor

Former Wolves record-signing Fabio Silva has never set the world alight during his time at Molineux.

Since joining the club for £35.6 million in 2020 he has underperformed and struggled to hit the back of the net for years.

Despite four different Wolves managers overseeing his progress, not one has managed to harness the potential that Nuno Espirito Santo originally saw in the striker.

Now, after a failed loan spell at Scottish giants Rangers in 2024, the writing is now on the wall for the former Wolves number nine.

All signs point towards a permanent exit from Molineux this summer but there is one crucial factor that is holding up a potential deal.

Since returning from his loan spell, Gary O’Neil had opted not to take Silva on Wolves’ pre-season tour

There were rumours that Silva could be departing for Sevilla after reports linked the striker to the Spanish club

However, journalist Liam Keen reported on the E&S podcast stating that the Portuguese man is still at Wolves simply because there is no interest.

He said: “He has been training away from the team, he will not be training with the team going forward and he will be leaving the club.

“As it stands, there is no sustained, concrete interest from clubs interested in taking him. Wolves will be desperate to find a solution, as will Fabio and his people.

“As it stands, there is no movement on him but he will definitely be leaving.”

“What you don’t want it to become is a Leo Bonatini situation where he stays at the club until December or January, his contract gets cancelled and he leaves on a free.

“That’s what Wolves don’t need from a financial point of view, but they also need to find the right move to suit everyone.

“He will be leaving, we just need to know where and when.”

Wolves missed their opportunity to sell Fabio Silva last summer

The best opportunity Wolves had to sell Silva for a decent fee was last summer. The striker had rejoined the squad on the back of two successful loan spells at Anderlecht and PSV.

However, instead of cashing in, Wolves took a gamble and gave him the number nine shirt. This did not work out in the slightest, with the striker only netting once in 10 games – a 5-0 victory over League One side Blackpool in the Carabao Cup.

Now, after a terrible last 12 months, Wolves are once again stuck with Silva. It is difficult to see how O’Neil’s side will find a solution at present without cancelling his deal.

Hopefully, with Silva still only being 22 years old, someone will take a gamble on him to help revive his career.
