Ruben Neves has stated he is ‘happy to play with these boys’, after Wolves beat Coventry City 2-1 today.
Bruno Lage’s side have recorded their second pre-season victory, with Fabio Silva and Neves himself providing the goals.
Lage made a string of changes to his starting XI following the game with Stoke City yesterday.
It was a decent showing, although there was more vulnerability at the back at times.
But it is clear to see that Lage is trying to get the team to be more in control and dominate the ball and create chances.
It was three-at-the-back with wing-backs again today, but it did not feel particularly ‘defensive’.
Goalscorer Neves was pleased with the performance, and after the game he revealed his happiness at the moment.
“I’m really happy to captain the team. With Conor [Coady], [Joao] Moutinho and John [Ruddy] as well,” he said.
“I think we have a great group. I’m really happy to play with these boys. It was good for everyone.”
Later in the interview, Neves showered praise on Lage.
“He’s a very good coach. I’m really happy to work with him. I spoke with a few friends in Benfica when he signed for Wolves, they said a lot of good things about him.”
Neves ready for the Lage era?
These comments are quite interesting from Neves.
Of course at the moment, the maestro is being linked with an exit from the club.
Manchester United are reportedly keen, and it’s been claimed earlier in the summer that Wolves would be open to selling for the right price.
But it sounds like Neves is quite excited by the prospect of working under Lage.
That said, an offer could still come in and Fosun might cash in.
Maybe this at least rules out Neves himself pushing for an exit though.
