Gary O’Neil has been talking up defender Toti Gomes, whom he sees as an extremely important player in his squad.
The centre-back hasn’t featured much so far in the opening weeks of the season.
So far, Craig Dawson and captain Max Kilman have been firmly established in the backline.
Toti has made just one appearance so far – in the 5-0 win over Blackpool in the Carabao Cup.
He is down in the pecking order again just at the moment.
But O’Neil has had some very kind words to say about Toti, and the suggestion is that he will have a big part to play going forwards…

Gary O’Neil hails Wolves defender Toti Gomes
Toti may have players ahead of him right now.
But he is a great player and has the potential to come into the side at any point.

His chances of coming into start right now should be pretty decent, because Dawson and Kilman have both been a little shaky in the opening games.
Of the Portuguese, O’Neil said (Express & Star): “Yeah, he is. I’ve spoken to him, he’s a good guy who is working very hard.
“He understands that he’s behind Max at the moment in terms of team selection, but I don’t really run a squad that way. There’s no number one or number two for each position, they’re all equally important to me.
“Toti understands that if he performs, works hard and earns his place in the team, he’ll get it.
“He’s extremely important to us. He can obviously play at left-back as well, which is helpful, and there’s loads of potential for us to work with and improve.
“He’s an exciting player for me and the coaches to get to work with.”
Every squad needs a Toti Gomes
It’s nice to hear praise like this from O’Neil for Toti.
He has never really been a nailed on regular for Wolves, but he always does a good job when he comes into the side.

And the brilliant thing about Toti is that he is relatively low maintenance. There is no ego whatsoever, and he is hardworking and humble.
He just gets on with it. He would surely love to play more, but he never complains.
Toti is versatile and dependable, and it is little wonder O’Neil is a fan.
