It is not uncommon for players to absolutely thrive after leaving a club – and this has been the case for one man since departing Wolves a few years ago.
At the moment, Wolves are in a pretty healthy spot.
Relegation will be avoided after Vitor Pereira came in and made a huge impact following the sacking of Gary O’Neil.
Wolves are 12 points clear now, and realistically there will be no worries about dropping into the Championship from this point.
Wolves really do have some talented players in their squad and should never have been in this position.
But there’s one player who departed Wolves a few years ago, just before the club started struggling – and he could now replace Kevin De Bruyne at Manchester City.
Former Wolves man Morgan Gibbs-White tipped to replace Kevin De Bruyne at Man City

It’s been reported by the very reputable David Ornstein in The Athletic that Manchester City are actually now considering a move for Morgan Gibbs-White this summer.
It was recently announced that Kevin De Bruyne will leave the Etihad Stadium this summer when his contract ends.
So City want a replacement – and their search may take them to Gibbs-White.
He and Florian Wirtz of Bayer Leverkusen are two attacking midfielders they are currently considering to replace the Belgian maestro.
That really underlines the progress Gibbs-White has made since leaving Wolves in 2022.
The fact he is now being considered to replace one of the all-time great Premier League players is quite something. He has also already been branded ‘exceptional’ (via mancity.com) by Pep Guardiola.
Wolves stand to benefit financially from Gibbs-White
It will be very interesting to see what happens with Gibbs-White in the coming weeks.
The fee Wolves received for Gibbs-White was previously broken down, and there is a chance for the club to benefit financially.
Wolves stand to receive the rest of the add-ons for Gibbs-White if Forest qualify for Europe. It’s thought Forest paid Wolves £25 million up front for Gibbs-White, and that around £10 million in add-ons has been paid since.
Gibbs-White for Wolves (2017-22) | Gibbs-White for Nottingham Forest |
Appearances – 88 | Appearances – 110 |
Goals – 3 | Goals – 16 |
Assists – 1 | Assists – 27 |
But the full fee was negotiated at around £42.5 million, meaning Wolves would be due around £7.5 million if Forest make Europe.
And then, Wolves can also benefit if Gibbs-White is sold.
Wolves agreed a 15% sell-on clause when they sold the player, but that then reduced to 10%. The sell-on clause would be any profit Forest made selling him.
