‘Excellent’ Wolves star ‘not in Gary O’Neil’s plans’ and could leave in January transfer window amid on-field clue

With the January transfer window just around the corner, rumours are starting to form surrounding the Wolves squad.

Recently, there were claims that Wolves are aiming to only sign a centre-back in January as they look to move up the Premier League table.

However, outgoings could also occur, with many Old Gold stars struggling for game time.

Now, one star has been highlighted as ‘expendable’ as questions over his long-term future remain.

Goncalo Guedes is the ‘most likely’ star to leave Wolves in January

While incomings are no doubt expected at Wolves, outgoings could help fund any potential additions to the squad.

One player who has struggled for game time is Goncalo Guedes. The winger returned to the Wolves fold this season but has mainly been limited to cameos off the bench.

Despite his limited game time, Guedes has impressed. The Portuguese attacker picked up a vital assist in the recent draw against Crystal Palace.

O’Neil also stated that Guedes’ had been excellent after his performance in the 3-2 defeat to Brighton.

However, the winger may still be moved on in January with journalist Liam Keen believing that the attacker is ‘expendable’.

“They are so loaded in that position that they could afford to let him go, depending on the offer that they got,” he told the E&S Podcast.

“He hasn’t played a lot so would a team come in and pay enough for a permanent fee for him? I’m not sure, it may be another loan. He is obviously still under contract at Wolves.

“He has done okay to be fair, he has done better than his previous spell at Wolves. We all know about his issues off the pitch as well but he has definitely been better.”

He later added: “As much as he has been better, if you asked me if would I be open to letting Guedes go in January, I still would.

“That is judging based on what we have seen this season, that is not holding him against him from the last couple of years. We just haven’t seen enough, he’s clearly not involved enough, he is not in Gary O’Neil’s plans enough hence his number of minutes.

“I think he is expendable, to be honest, and he is more likely than anyone to get a move.”

Wolves need to give Goncalo Guedes a chance

It is baffling that Wolves have not given Guedes a shot in a Premier League starting XI this season.

The winger has performed exceptionally every time he has played and has rarely let the side down.

In comparison, many of Wolves’ other stars have been inconsistent, such as Hwang Hee-Chan and Pablo Sarabia

If Wolves do consider a sale, they must give Guedes a run in the starting XI to truly assess if he has no value in the Old Gold squad.
