Director ‘sure’ Wolves target will leave with exit a matter of time

A move away from Universidad de Chile is almost inevitable with Premier League outfit Wolves still in pursuit of the teenage forward.

Last summer, Matt Hobbs – now Wolves’ sporting director – jetted out to South America and returned empty handed.

The Molineux outfit came close to landing then-River Plate starlet Enzo Fernandez, a few months before he arrived at Chelsea for a British record fee of £106 million and with a World Cup winners’ medal hanging around his neck.

Wolves had also reportedly agreed a deal to sign fresh-faced Chile international Dario Osorio too, only for Universidad to end up retaining the services of a player who exploded onto the scene with seven goals and a ‘new Angel di Maria’ nickname in 2022.

Wolves still chasing Dario Osorio

“It’s true that there was a lot of interest,” sporting director Manuel Mayo tells Bolavip. “And that we chose, together with the player, that it was best for him to stay here with us.

“We want (the young players) to help us meet our objectives, and not after the first few games they leave for the first offer.

“With (coach) Mauricio Pellegrino, (Osorio) is acquiring new tools that make him a more complete player.”

According to the Express and Star, Wolves are still keeping tabs on Osorio, even if the teenager currently resembles a ‘shadow’ of the player who tore through defences like a young Gareth Bale last year.

The Sun believe that West Ham, meanwhile, are lining up a £7.5 million bid after failing with an opening offer of £5.5 million in 2022.

“We will discuss it with him, with his agent, with Mauricio and we will determine if it is time to leave,” Mayo adds, discussing how Universidad de Chile will proceed if faced with an offer they cannot refuse.

“I am sure that Dario will continue arousing interest. I don’t see another player like him. Sooner rather than later, Dario is going to succeed abroad.”
