Details of Matheus Cunha to Manchester United transfer emerge as Wolves wait on ‘green tick’

Matheus Cunha’s exit from Wolves is looming as transfer links to Manchester United continue to grow.

In March, Cunha suggested that he’s ready to leave Wolves in the 2025 summer transfer window.

Since the player’s admission, links to an array of clubs have strengthened, including Man United’s interest.

Man United want to sign Cunha, and it’s been reported that the forward would be open to a move to Old Trafford, with his departure now a matter of a time rather than purely speculation.

Matheus Cunha to Manchester United transfer update

Cunha got himself into hot water with Wolves fans due to his decision to lift the lid on his desire to secure a move away from Molineux.

Though it’s understood that Nottingham Forest are eager to sign Cunha, it’s become apparent that Man United are the most interested party.

Amid the rising talk, The Wolfpack Podcast got the lowdown from journalist Ben Jacobs, who shared an insight into what Cunha’s agent has been doing with regard to the Red Devils.

“Cunha’s agent, when he feels it’s close, will fly over to England. That hasn’t happened yet, he made a trip a couple of weeks ago, he met with Cunha, but that was at Wolves,” Jacobs said.

“It was more to discuss options with his players, then there were meetings with several clubs, particularly Manchester United and Newcastle.

“So what we can say is Manchester United are leading the race because Cunha is sold on the Manchester United project, and part of that is because he has been pitched to as a number ten.”

The Brazilian is a fan of Amorim’s project, despite there being reservations over Man United’s stability ahead of Cunha’s possible transfer

Jacobs continued by talking about finances, referencing Cunha’s £62.5m release clause, a fee that was inserted into his newly signed contract.

“Now they’re starting to discuss terms, and from there, it’ll be a case of Manchester United likely making a formal approach to Wolves, that hasn’t happened yet.

“Most people are of the belief, including the suitors, that the £62.5m number is a fair market valuation.

“Therefore, there won’t be a great deal of club negotiation necessary, but Manchester United may want to go around the clause; they may want different payment terms, and we have to understand how willing Wolves are to be flexible around that number.”

Wolves agreed Cunha’s release clause price due to the situation the club found themselves in during the January window, when interest in their star player became rife and borderline disruptive.

Contact between Manchester United and Cunha confirmed

While the Brazilian’s departure and exit price look to be all but set in stone, some details need to be covered before his sale can be confirmed.

Jacobs elaborated on the situation between Cunha and Man United, confirming that while the 25-year-old is keen on the project, talks are ongoing to cement the deal.

“Manchester United have got a big green tick in terms of does Cunha want to play under Ruben Amorim in that role, now they have to get a tick on terms.

“There was a zoom meeting between Manchester United and Cunha a couple of days ago, there is another one scheduled. If, or when, they agree terms, you’ve then got to get the deal done with Wolves as well.”

Wolves will be eager to bring the transfer saga to a close, in what has been a trying time for the Old Gold, who are in position to kick on once their star player does depart.
