Dave Edwards urges Julen Lopetegui to give Fabio Silva a go in 2023/24

Former Wolves midfielder Dave Edwards has urged Julen Lopetegui to consider putting his faith in Fabio Silva next season.

The striker’s future is currently up in the air.

He spent last season out on loan with Anderlecht and then PSV Eindhoven, and had a pretty productive season.

Silva has played regularly and been able to develop his game nicely.

But Wolves are said to be in a sticky situation financially, which has led to suggestions Silva could be cashed in on.

There has also been some talk about him going out on loan against.

While there has been a lot of speculation about where Silva will be playing his football next season, some hope he will be back at Molineux.

And Edwards is in that camp.

He says in his latest Express & Star column: “At the end of the 2021/22 season, Fabio Silva was a really frustrated figure at Wolves.

“He didn’t look like he was enjoying his football, or getting the opportunities. He looked visibly upset when you’d see him after games and he hadn’t played.

“It was really good for him to have a year away this season and play in two different leagues.

“There is an opportunity for Silva. Everyone expects the club to go out and buy a number nine and if they do pay a lot of money for someone, you’d think they’d be the starter, and will Silva be happy with that? I don’t think so.

“But if he’s happy to fight for his place and back himself, he will get opportunities under this manager. He’s a manager that does develop young players and Silva is still only 20 years old. He still has a huge future ahead of him and I would like to see him stay.”

Supposedly, interest in Silva is really mounting at the moment. Clubs from Spain, Italy, Germany and Turkey are keen.

Fabio Silva should get a chance to play for Wolves in 2023/24

Silva should get an opportunity to play for Wolves next season.

The £80,000-a-week star just finished a really good season and is returning to the club a much better player and hopefully with more confidence.

Another loan move doesn’t help Wolves.

And a permanent sale doesn’t feel right, unless Wolves would be recouping the £35.6 million they paid FC Porto to sign him.

So it makes sense to try and get him involved in the 2023/24 season.

Potentially he could hit the ground running, especially if played in a partnership with Matheus Cunha, who looks great in that ‘second striker’ position.
