Dave Edwards thinks Wolves should sell 27-year-old now

Former Wolves midfielder Dave Edwards believes the club should now cash in on Daniel Podence.

The attacker’s future is currently up in the air.

He is a player Wolves are apparently listening to offers for this summer, as the club seeks to balance the books.

Ruben Neves, Conor Coady and Nathan Collins have all gone already, fetching just shy of £80 million.

But Wolves could offload a few more before the summer is out – and Podence is someone who could go.

The 27-year-old is reportedly a target for Real Betis.

Wanderers value the former Olympiacos star at around £8.5 million.

Dave Edwards disagrees with Steve Bull about Daniel Podence and thinks Wolves should sell

Edwards has touched on the Podence speculation in his latest column for the Express & Star.

He believes that the club should now offload the forward, which is the opposite of what Steve Bull thinks.

He said: “One player who does look set to leave is Daniel Podence and I do think it’s the right thing to do.

“The club have a lot of similar players and they need a reshuffle. He’s never really had a relationship with the fans, but he did offer a lot last season when they struggled.

“He scored big goals in big moments for Wolves. He’ll always try to make something happen, which I liked, even if he was frustrating at times.

“He’s had some important moments in a Wolves shirt. But it feels like the right time to move him on and maybe look at different options in those wide areas.”

Podence should be sold for the right price

It is hard to really argue with Edwards here.

Podence is a very talented footballer. Arguably, he can do things on a pitch that none of his teammates can.

But the issue has always been his consistency.

Yes he finished joint-top goalscorer for Wolves last season. But sadly, Podence has generally always blown hot and cold at Molineux which is a real shame.

Edwards rightly points out that Podence has made important contributions for the club and had some big moments.

He’s served the club well on the whole. But if Wolves can get a good fee for him this summer – where he has one year left on his contract – then it would be the right call to move him on.
