Former Wolves midfielder Dave Edwards believes Nelson Semedo’s return is ‘a massive plus’.
The Portugal international came on as a substitute in last weekend’s game with Fulham.
The former Barcelona star was making his first appearance since going off injured in the game against Brighton back in April.
Semedo suffered a serious hamstring injury that required him to undergo surgery.
As a result, the ace was unable to get any minutes under his belt in pre-season.
He was back on the bench though for the game against Fulham, and he replaced Jonny Castro Otto with around 15 minutes to go.
And encouragingly, Semedo actually did look quite sharp.
Last term, he was one of the better performers for Wolves and should have scored far more goals than the one he ended up with.
But he was also strong defensively, which was a real positive.
Edwards has talked up Semedo’s return for Wolves, adding that he has not been convinced by Jonny and Rayan Ait-Nouri in the first two games.
He said (Express & Star): “I think the full-backs have been poor so far this season but Semedo coming back from injury is a massive plus.
“He came on so hopefully won’t be too far away from full fitness and a starting slot.”
Nelson Semedo return is fantastic for Wolves, amid Jonny and Ait-Nouri struggles
Semedo’s comeback is indeed a major positive for Wolves.
The 28-year-old was a fantastic outlet last term for Wanderers and also showcased a much improved side to his defending.
Edwards’ view about Ait-Nouri and Jonny will probably be shared by a lot of supporters.
The duo have not quite hit the ground running yet in the new system. They will now both have to up their games if they are to stay in the starting XI. Because Bruno Lage will surely be itching to call on Semedo again.
