Daniel Podence rejects ‘high offer’ move as Wolves’ asking price is revealed

The future of Daniel Podence at Wolves has been a hot topic throughout the summer transfer window.

Wolves’ top scorer in the 2022/23 campaign left the club to go on a season-long loan to Olympiacos last year where he continued his form.

He helped the Greek side knock out Aston Villa in the Europa Conference League before winning the trophy in Athens.

Since returning to the Wolves this summer, his future has been uncertain. The winger was taken to Spain at the start of pre-season and played in behind-closed-doors friendlies.

However, Liam Keen reported earlier this week that he still expects Podence to depart.

Yet, Podence has still rejected a potential move away from the club despite a ‘high offer’.

Going into the final year of his contract, if Podence does not want to stay at Wolves, it is clear that Gary O’Neil is happy to part with the player.

However, it appears that the Portuguese winger only has eyes on one team – Olympiacos.

According to Giorgos Tsanakas on bwinSPORT FM, Podence had a ‘high offer’ from an MLS side a few days ago.

Yet, despite the chance to leave Wolves, the attacker rejected the proposal. It is believed that Podence only wants to move to Olympiacos and is ‘willing to do anything in his power’ to pressure the club into accepting an offer.

Wolves currently value the attacker at €10 million, an asking price the Greek side are yet to meet.

Wolves are rightly holding out for their asking price for Daniel Podence

Whatever Podence makes of the situation, he must be prepared to accept that if Olymipacos do not meet the asking price, Wolves will not accept the bid.

The winger still has plenty of value after some great performances in Europe last season and with only a year left on his deal, it may be the last chance for the club to make any money.

However, Wolves must also be wary of this. What could easily happen is Podence sits in the Under 21s for a year before departing on a free to Olympiacos next summer.

It is no doubt dangerous ground but fans will be confident that Matt Hobbs will be able to get a deal done.
