‘Could work really well’: Wolves urged to sign £5m PL player and he’s reportedly keen to join

Former Wolves midfielder Dave Edwards has thrown his backing behind a potential move for West Ham United defender Aaron Cresswell.

Wanderers became linked with the 33-year-old last week, which surprised a lot of fans.

Left-back was not a position many thought Wolves would look to address this summer.

Hugo Bueno looked really promising.

Rayan Ait-Nouri remains a player with very high potential, even though he didn’t play so much in the last two months of 2022/23.

And Ryan Giles was also coming back to the club after a successful loan spell with Middlesbrough.

But Wolves are looking to land Cresswell, who is apparently keen on the move, which would surely see at least one of those players leave the club.

This proposed move has split Wolves fans down the middle, much like the swoop for Matt Doherty.

Some are uninspired at the idea of 33-year-old full-back coming in.

But others think Cresswell could potentially be a shrewd signing and add some experience and leadership to the dressing room.

Former Molineux midfielder Edwards is in the latter camp on this one.

Writing in his latest Express & Star column, he said: “Wolves have also been linked with Aaron Cresswell at West Ham. Again, he is perhaps not the kind of signing who would get pulses racing. But at 33 he offers so much experience.

“When you consider Wolves’ first-choice left-back is likely to be a 20-year-old in Hugo Bueno, having someone who has been there and done it to back him up and provide cover could work really well.

“I know Wolves are looking to have more leaders in the group, in particular British players. That is something they maybe lacked last year.”

Supposedly, Wolves do see Cresswell as a good potential mentor for Bueno.

Aaron Cresswell will only be good signing depending on the fee and the role he’ll have

Wolves moving for Cresswell would be very intriguing.

Undoubtedly, he’s not quite the same player as a few years ago. Given he’s 33 that is obvious to say.

But Cresswell could potentially be a decent signing.

If the plan is to utilise him every now and then to give the brilliant Bueno a rest, then many Wolves fans will likely be on board with that.

But of course, Wolves still need to agree a fee with West Ham.

Supposedly, the Irons were looking for around £5 million for the full-back. Given the financial situation at Molineux, officials will be hoping to secure the player for less.
