Wolverhampton Wanderers have officially completed the signing of Yerson Mosquera.
The defender joins the club from Atletico Nacional on a five-year deal.
The 20-year-old will not be working with the U23s or heading out on loan and will work with the first-team. The hope is he will be competing to be a starter once he’s settled.
Mosquera’s signing comes relatively out of the blue.
Wolves wrapped up the deal fairly quickly, having first scouted him only a couple of months ago, according to The Athletic.
Fans can be forgiven for knowing nothing about him.
But The Athletic have today published quotes from Colombian football expert Carlos Aleman, who has delivered an honest verdict of Mosquera.
He said: “He’s a wonderkid.
“He’s one of the better defenders in the Colombian league. One of his best qualities is that he’s very young, he’s very fast and strong.
“He might need to settle a bit before going into the first team and I’m very surprised he’s going to England so soon.
“It’s not as common for Colombian players going to England that young. To have success in England you have to be consistent, learn the language, be able to adapt yourself to another style. Colombia is very slow, in England it’ll be faster and stronger.
“I don’t know if he’s ready yet but he’s certainly one of the good prospects from the Colombian league.”
Patience required with Mosquera
It sounds as though Mosquera has fantastic potential.
But Aleman’s comments do suggest that it’s going to take time for him to adapt.
The slow pace of the Colombian league may mean he’ll find the Premier League a baptism of fire at first and make mistakes.
It’s vital for fans to get behind the youngster.
