Club release official statement to categorically deny they’re trying to sign £9.7m Wolves player

Wolves are set for a busy end to the transfer window and the future of Mario Lemina remains up in the air.

Mario Lemina has not played for Wolves now since the game with Nottingham Forest earlier this month.

His last start came back in Gary O’Neil’s final game in charge against Ipswich Town.

Vitor Pereira said that Lemina had refused to play against Newcastle United and ever since that claim, his future at Wolves has been in serious doubt.

Pereira then said Lemina would not play for Wolves while the transfer window was still open.

The expectation was that he would go to Al-Shabab. But that move did not materialise and now, their window has closed.

But other clubs are in the picture. Torino have been in talks over Lemina, while Galatasaray have also been mentioned.

But today, one club has denied they are attempting to sign Lemina.

Somewhat unusually, Besiktas took to their official X account earlier today to release a statement about reports of interest from them in Lemina.

Out of Turkish clubs, Lemina has mainly been linked to Galatasaray.

But Besiktas have been mentioned too. However, they have now moved to put an end to any more speculation.

They wrote earlier: “Statement from our club.

“The news published in the written and visual media claiming that our club is making attempts to transfer professional football player Mario Lemina is completely unfounded.

“We respectfully submit this to the information of our fans. Besiktas JK.”

Lemina outcome will be fascinating

It is not very common for clubs to issue statements dismissing transfer interest in players, but Wolves fans won’t be surprised by anything these days.

What happens with £9.7 million (BBC Sport) man Lemina between now and tomorrow night will be fascinating.

His decline at Molineux has been really surprising to see, and few would have expected this kind of situation only a couple of months ago.

Ideally, Wolves would get rid of Lemina and take a financial hit if needs be, because it’s clear his head is elsewhere.

But it may be that no agreement can be reached and he ends up staying. That would present Pereira with an uncomfortable situation.

Wolves need to just make sure they are prepared for his exit.
