Champions League club interested in £90k-a-week Wolves star after selling youngster

Real Sociedad have been linked with a surprise move for Wolves’ resurgent midfielder Pablo Sarabia.

The 31-year-old has enjoyed a really good past couple of months at Molineux after receiving a show of faith from Gary O’Neil.

Sarabia was struggling for minutes, but Pedro Neto’s injury opened the door for him and has been a creative force for Wanderers in the Portuguese’s absence.

He has started the last six Premier League games and also started Friday’s FA Cup game with Brentford, and O’Neil has been impressed with what he’s seen from the Spaniard.

Despite his return upturn though, Sarabia has now been linked with a move to another club…

It has been reported by Spanish outlet AS that Sarabia could potentially now be a target for Real Sociedad – who are a Champions League last 16 side after winning their group – this month.

The club have just sold Mohamed-Ali Cho to Nice for around £8.6 million, and are on the lookout for a replacement.

The sale has apparently changed the outlook for the club, and there is a desire to land someone this month so they are not short in the forward areas. They are said to want a player who can improve on what they already have.

Sarabia is mentioned as a potential option, given his overall lack of game time this season. Andreas Skov-Aolson and West Ham United’s Pablo Fornals are also options, as is Marco Asensio.

Sarabia going nowhere

So Sarabia may well be a target for Sociedad now, but it’s difficult to see that particular move coming to fruition this month.

£90,000-a-week star Sarabia may not have started the season in favour at Molineux, but he has been a key player in recent weeks for Wolves and looks to have finally found his feet at the club after a year.

He is not high-octane or dynamic like Matheus Cunha, Hwang Hee-chan or Pedro Neto but it’s clear that he’s a top quality technician and someone who can create chances.

It’s taken him some time, but Sarabia is now showing why Wolves moved for him in January 2022. Gary O’Neil said recently that Sarabia is a player with ‘unbelievable quality’, and the star has plenty to offer and Wolves are not likely to want to offload him at this point, not just as he’s starting to come good.
